Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Sam Shotha ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you visit our website. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring transparency about our data practices.

Information We Collect

We collect minimal information about visitors to our website, and none of it is collected unless you have given permission for it. There are two separate purposes you can consent to independently – Analytics and Marketing – and each is described below. If you consent to neither, no analytics or advertising cookies are set and neither Google nor Meta is contacted.

Analytics – Google Analytics

If you consent to analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics to collect anonymous information about how visitors use our website. This may include:

Pages visited and time spent on each page
How you arrived at our website (referring website, search engine, etc.)
Your general geographic location (country/region level, not specific address)
Device and browser information
IP address (which Google Analytics anonymizes)

This information is collected anonymously and aggregated, meaning it cannot be used to identify you personally.

Marketing – the Meta (Facebook) Pixel

If you consent to marketing cookies, we load the Meta Pixel, a tool provided by Meta Platforms (the company behind Facebook and Instagram). Unlike analytics, this is not anonymous: the Pixel shares information about your visit directly with Meta, which can connect it to your Facebook or Instagram account if you have one. It may include:

The pages you viewed on our site and when
Your IP address and device and browser information
Identifiers stored in Meta's cookies (_fbp, and _fbc if you arrived from a Meta advert)

We use it to measure whether our adverts for the All About books are working, and to show adverts to people who have visited our site or who resemble our visitors. Meta may also use this data for its own purposes as an independent controller, under its own terms.

This is the one part of our site that involves advertising tracking, and it is entirely optional. Declining it does not change how the website works.

How We Use Information

If you consent to analytics, that information is used solely to:

Understand how visitors use our website
Improve website content and user experience
Analyze website traffic patterns

If you consent to marketing, information about your visit is shared with Meta so that we can measure and target our advertising, as described above.

We never sell or rent your information. Aside from the marketing cookies described above – which you must actively opt into – we do not share your information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Cookies

Our website sets no analytics or advertising cookies unless you consent to them. When you first visit, you will see a Cookie Settings dialog with a separate tick box for each purpose, so you can agree to one and refuse the other. It offers:

Accept all: Enables both analytics and marketing
Save my choices: Enables only the categories you have ticked
Reject all: No analytics or advertising cookies are set, and neither Google Analytics nor the Meta Pixel is loaded

Closing the dialog without choosing is treated as refusal, and nothing is loaded.

Changing or Withdrawing Your Consent

You can change your mind at any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of every page. It reopens the same dialog showing your current choices, and you can tick or untick either category and save.

If you withdraw consent for a category, we delete the cookies that category had set and reload the page so that the relevant scripts are no longer running. Withdrawing is as easy as giving consent, and requires no more than the footer link.

Your choice is stored locally in your browser (in local storage, not in a cookie sent to us) and is remembered on future visits. Because it is stored per browser, you will be asked again if you use a different browser or device, or if you clear your browsing data.

Types of Cookies Used

Strictly Necessary: Your cookie choice itself, stored in your browser's local storage. This cannot be switched off, but it sets no tracking cookies and is never sent to us or to anyone else.
Analytics Cookies: Set by Google Analytics to measure website usage – only if you consent to analytics
Marketing Cookies: Set by Meta to measure and target advertising – only if you consent to marketing

Third-Party Services

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC. Google Analytics uses cookies to help analyze how visitors use our website. The information generated by these cookies (including your IP address) is transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States.

Google may use this data to:

Evaluate your use of our website
Compile reports on website activity
Provide other services relating to website activity and internet usage

Meta Platforms

If, and only if, you consent to marketing cookies, we use the Meta Pixel, provided by Meta Platforms Ireland Limited. The Pixel sets cookies in your browser and transmits information about your visit to Meta, including your IP address, on servers that may be located outside the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area.

Meta may use this data to:

Report to us how our adverts performed, in aggregate
Show our adverts to you or to people with similar interests
Link your visit to your Facebook or Instagram account, if you have one
Its own purposes as an independent data controller, under its own terms

Data Storage and Security

We do not store any personal data on our servers. Any data collection is handled by Google Analytics and Meta, each only if you have consented to the relevant category, and your cookie preferences are stored locally in your browser using browser local storage.

We take reasonable measures to protect our website, but please be aware that no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.

Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your data:

Right to Access: You can request information about what data is collected (if any)
Right to Withdraw Consent: You can withdraw consent for either category at any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of every page. We will delete that category's cookies and stop loading its scripts.
Right to Opt-Out: You can additionally opt out of Google Analytics in any website by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, and control Meta's use of data about you in your Meta account settings
Right to Delete: Choosing “Reject all” in Cookie settings deletes the analytics and advertising cookies already set. Clearing your browser's local storage also removes the record of your preference.

Children's Privacy

Our website is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete such information.

Our website may contain links to external websites, including Amazon product pages. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of these external sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any external websites you visit.
